Setting up Office365 for a client who had their domain with BT (yay), the BT domain/DNS management is very basic, and doesn’t give many hints on how SRV records should be entered. As BT doesn’t allow you to easily update the nameservers to ideally handle DNS elsewhere, I had to stick with keeping DNS with BT/Register.com.

Here is a screenshot of the working SRV records in the BT DNS management interface:

BT DNS

This works and is accepted by Office365. The order for the value field should be priority, weight, port and then target. Remember to leave off the trailing full stop after the domain.

SRV    _sip._tls     100 1 443 sipdir.online.lync.com

SRV    _sipfederationtls._tcp      100 1 5061 sipfed.online.lync.com

I hope that saves someone a bit of head scratching. Leave a comment if you found this useful!
